About the Horses

Thomas B. Saunders has been head wrangler for the Road to the Horse since the event's inception. He searches the country for the right set of horses for the demanding two-day show.

Stacy Westfall and Popcorn |
Stacy Westfall is the only woman ever to have competed in the Road to the Horse. She won convincingly in 2006 with the colt Popcorn, who's with her in this photo.
At the end of her first round pen session in 2006, she made up her mind to buy the colt she was working with. . She announced it the following morning and told the crowd she had named him "Popcorn."
When she returned to defend her title in 2007, she once again purchased her colt, naming him Kernel.
As one who has continued her relationship with Road to the Horse colts, she's in a unique position to evaluate what impact the event has on the animals.
