American Flag Freedom Murals
While living in Leadville, Colorado, Annie Margarita was friends with a local store owner Frank Nickle who owned Saturday's Market. A friend of his had a son named Nick Palmer, a U.S. Marine that had been killed in Iraq. A remarkable young man, he was sadly missed by many townsfolk. Frank knew that Annie was a former Marine and also a muralist. They both thought it a very good idea to create a special memorial to Nick and to all the Service Men and Women who had given the ultimate sacrifice to their Country and the Citizens of the United State of America. Annie painted the first American Flag Freedom Mural and dedicated it to the "Men and Women who have Died for our Freedom". A dedication ceremony was photographed and published in the local newspaper.
In the Summer of 2009 Annie learned that a Blackhawk helicopter had gone down in a training exercise in Leadville. Four Servicemen were killed. A 70 member investigative team and clean up crew were stationed in Leadville for 2 months after the incident. Saturday's Market soon became the morning meet up point for coffee before going out for another day's work. The servicemen were thrilled with the mural and the fact that a former Marine had painted it. Several of the soldiers would even salute it upon arrival. Tourists were asked to donate some change for the local Veteran's Memorial to photograph it. This original mural was becoming an icon of what America needed to do to send a Thank You to its fallen children.
Share the Feeling
Annie Margarita wants to continue to paint American Flag Freedom Murals to share this feeling with more people. Veterans are our country's Pride and Responsibility. An American Flag Freedom Mural to thank them in locations that are visible for them and others to see, will help remind them that they are Appreciated and Loved!
Please help Annie to paint as many of these as possible, she can't do it alone! Become a Sponsor, a Contributor or a Supporter to help fund the costs of materials, travel expenses and discounted muralwork.
You can pick what mural you are donating to, suggest a location and size, give her ideas for new murals and volunteer to organize a fundraiser to have her paint a mural at your club or organization's location!
