Stan Lynde’s Cowboy Lore & Legend
The crowns of cowboy hats in the 1880s were sometimes creased by their
owners and sometimes left uncreased and round-topped. Texans generally left
their hats uncreased and round-topped. (I have one hat that was creased by a
combination rain/sleet storm).

Author of seven novels featuring the adventures of Deputy U.S. Marshal Merlin Fanshaw, Stan Lynde is a fourth-generation native Montanan and the creator, author, and artist of two highly acclaimed syndicated cartoon strips, Rick O'Shay and Latigo. He lives in Helena, Montana, with his wife, Lynda.

nighthawksh — Fri, 2012-01-20 13:32Thanks, pard, for this great piece of info. I followed Rick O'Shay and Hipshot for many years back in the late 50's and early 60's. They were my idea of true western men.
