I would like to invite anyone who loves western history as much as I do to stop by Holbrook Az.. It has kind of faded a little since they built Hwy. 40 but it is one of the most historical towns of the west. The old cout house is home to the area musium. It has one compleate area covering the Hashnife Ranch. There are many exibit there from an old chuck wagon to many old pieces of tac that the buckaroos used who rode this range. The Hashknife coverd 600,000 ac and ran over 200,000 hd of cattle. There is an old part to the cemetary that has many graves of cowboys and outlaws that ended up there. There were more men killed in shootouts in Holebrook then any other western town. 36 in one year were killed between the Bucket Of Blood Saloon and the Horsehead Saloon on the street that was named the Bucket of Blood. I stoped at the Horsehead Saloon the other day. It has now been turned into an ice cream parlor but the owner has prserved the old bar with all the brands and other memorabiela from the Hash Knife era. The old jail is still compleat in the bottme of the court house with many paintings on the walls done by the prisoners. There was only one man ever hung in Navajo County and it is said that his ghost still haunts the cout house along with a woman that died in the jail. We still have the HashKnife outfit Pony express ride once a year also. The proprietor of the Horse Head Ice cream Parlor is one of the riders and his grandad was one of the origional riders. So ya all come to Holbrook and enjoy what the west really was with no Hollywood props like you find in Tucson and some of the other towns that were more popular.
