Life After Graduation
La_cowgirl21 — Sat, 2011-02-12 19:51
On December 11th, I finally graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. This was a great day for me. The whole day I kept saying I cant believe I actually graduated. I loved that my family was able to be there with me to share this day. Then came the "What Now?" feeling. I checked around my area for available teaching positions, finding none. So I decided to substitute in my parish at any school that would let me sub. The first day I went to sub at the school that I completed my student teaching, I was offered a temporary position tutoring students who did not benchmark when tested. I feel very blessed to have some sort of job in my career of choice and I now have my foot in the door to obtain a teaching position! Amazing what God will do for you when you trust in him!!!

Kansas Jack — Mon, 2011-02-14 22:52Congrats Cowgirl....
Dec. 11 of 2010 was a special day. My wife graduated from the University Central Missouri on that day also. She had been going part time while working for 9 years. So now you get to go out and make the big bucks so you can buy yourself a couple of equines. I have horses, but I'm partial to Mules and Donks.
I hope you get a full time position in a school you enjoy. My daughter is a teacher in Wisconsin. It's a tough job 'cuz they won't let you keep the kids in line by smacking them with a yardstick like they did when I was going to school. Again, Congrats and good luck.

Congratulations!
Sodbuster — Mon, 2011-02-14 21:01Like you, I have been in a teaching education program up here in Minnesota. I have just completed a two semesters of student teaching and am preparing to take my state boards next week. This can be a challenging time of year to land a position, but as you point out, things tend to work out for a reason. Best of luck to you!
