Winchester Model 94
La_cowgirl21 — Tue, 2010-08-10 13:29
Two weeks ago I was informed of a gun that my uncle was selling. This gun belonged to my grandfather who passed away in Sept 04. It was a Winchester 30-30. My dad informed me that my uncle was selling it because he wanted a different type of gun for this hunting season. Because I wanted to keep the gun in our family, my boyfriend suggested we go buy it from my uncle that day. So we went to look at it and he bought the gun for me. It has been kept in pretty good shape. It just needs some cleaning. It shoots great too! The comment was made by my boyfriend that he might would keep it for himself because of how much he liked it (im pretty sure he was just kidding), but one look from me changed his thinking. haha Im very thankful that this opportunity came up and that I dont have to worry about it being sold later down the road now that it is in my possession. I plan to use it this year if I get the chance to go hunting a few times while going through Student Teaching during the fall. :-)

I have owned Model 94's all
nighthawksh — Sun, 2010-08-15 11:46I have owned Model 94's all my life and I think they are the best saddle gun made.
The safety factor is one for discussion, but the 94 has a safety under the lever so that the lever must be held tightly to engage. If not, the gun will not fire. There is also the half-cock safety.
However, when riding, I keep the chamber empty until ready to fire.
A great, dependable rifle and one that should last you forever.
Yes. I am glad I have it
La_cowgirl21 — Mon, 2010-08-16 09:34Yes. I am glad I have it just because it belonged to my grandfather. It just required quite a bit of cleaning since my uncles wife made him keep it in the attic for quite some time and it collected alot of dust while up there.

John T — Thu, 2010-08-12 17:46hey just read your post and I wanted to share something with you about that firearm. I don't own a rifle my self so when my father told me he would let me use the 94 for an upcoming deer hunt, I was very pleased. I bought a decent set of sights and zeroed the rifle at the range. Opening day was cold as normal so I was wearing gloves and thats when the misfire occured, That particular rifle requires you to cock the rifle bringing the hammer back. well you can't walk around fully cocked so the remedy is to pull the trigger and EASE the hammer down with your thumb only when your wearing gloves the hammer goes bye bye and discharges a round into the ground in front of you silencing any conversation that was going on behind you and raising questions and eyebrows about "where your gonna be in the woods"
I gave that rifle back with a thanks but no thanks. The newer models might be different and I know the marlins have a safety for that. But just be carefull. I was always gratefull my dad drilled hunter safety into me because iautomatically had th rifle pointed in a safe direction when I was loading it.
