Prayer and Sovereignty
McLintock — Sat, 2010-03-13 19:24
I have noticed there have been more people making prayer request on here, and that is great. Prayer is the only way to make our request to God. But my question to ya'll is "how does our prayer and God's sovereignty work together?" God's sovereignty means God is in control of all things and knows all things. So if He knows all things do we tell Him anything new? Or is prayer something more than just making our request to Him? We must remember that God foreordains the means as well as the end, and our prayer is foreordained as the means whereby He brings His sovereign will to pass. And I believe that prayer is our fellowship with God Himself.
If we look at the Lord's prayer we see a fourfold activity; adoration and praise; contrite confession of sin and forgiveness sought; thanksgiving offered; and petitions and supplications. So next time you offer your prayers to God, keep these things in mind, but not take my word, go to the Bible and see what it says.

Prayer and Sovereignty
WesternArt — Mon, 2010-03-15 20:56McLintock,
I like what you have to say and most of all that one needs to "go to the Bible and see what it says". To many put a worldly twist on his message and miss what the good Lord is saying to us.

Prayer and Soveriegnty
wallywallman — Sun, 2010-03-14 17:44McLintock,
I do believe that you are telling it as it is. Proverbs 16:9 says "A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.". Also James tells us in chapter 4 verses 13 to 15 "Do not say you will go to a far city and dwell there a year and make profit. For you do not know what tomorrow will bring. Life is but a vapour that appears for a little time then vanishes away. Instead say 'If the Lord Wills we will do such and such' ". The Lord uses life`s circumstances to move us into his will.
You might say we need to learn to pray for "what must be". And I agree that Prayer is our way to fellowship with the Lord. Jesus spent a lot of time in Prayer and so should we. I am constantly amazed by the Lord`s goodness to me and mine. None of these blessings earned in any way nor can they be.

Prayer
Cowgirl at heart — Mon, 2010-03-15 10:45Just putting my two cents in.
God created man to have fellowship with man. And when Adam and Eve sinned that fellowship for the most part ended. God so wanted to resume that fellowship that He offered Himself up as the Holy and Sinless sacrifice needed so that He could resume His fellowship with man. And, God's manner of fellowship is to allow Himself, as the Holy Spirit, to dwell within us and to talk with us through prayer.
The reason God wants us to come to Him in prayer is so that He can fellowship with us.
