Ahhh,Retirement
Oldcowboy — Wed, 2010-04-28 08:05
I've been retired for about a month now. The best thing about it is that I don't have to get up at 3 in the morning any more. Nope, don't miss that at all. The horses do just fine until after sunup.
What I have done so far is rip out about 40 feet of woven wire fencing that separates the yard and house from the pasture. Had to replace it with good ol' wood posts and rails. We had so much rain for awhile that my big Palomino had managed to push over the metal posts and fencing and he and the little Paint mare dedcided to feast on the lawn grass. Lucky for me that my house is surrounded by fencing so the two beasties really couldn't go anywhere but the yard.
I still have to rip out about another 35 feet of this 4 foot high chainlink fencing that CherokeeSun has been trying to push over and replace it with wood posts and rails. This will keep him and the mare out of the yard and the veggie garden I'm trying to get planted.
But all is good, really. I saddle him up and we go for short rides and we do ground work for awhile, all this between Spring rain storms, not to mention all the little outside chores that I somehow found the time to do while I was working full time but are somehow ganging up on me now.
Ahhh retirement. The only thing that has actually changed is that I can now stay up until 9 or 10 o'clock like a big boy instead of crashing around 7:30 or 8 at night. Nope, don't miss that 3 AM alarm at all.
See ya on down the road.
