YIKES !! WASPS !!!
Oldcowboy — Mon, 2010-09-27 18:05
Went out to the barn this morning to give my horses some hay since all the've had for the last couple of days is wet pasture to graze on because of all the rain we've had. As I was laying the hay out for them I just happened to glance at a corner of the small barn. And lo and behold there was a wasp nest about 1/3 the size of a football covered with moving busy wasps !
I could hardly believe my eyes. I wanted to scream like a little girl and run out , but being the manly man that I am, I calmly walked out of the barn so as not to rile the critters up. I let the horses finish eating then led them out and softly closed the doors. Then I went to the house put on a long sleeved teeshirt, put a banana over my mouth, put on an old fatigue hat that had ear covers got out some clear safety glasses and gloves then finally covered up with an old fatigue shirt (BDU). Next I found the last full can of wasp spray. Now I was ready for battle.
I made my way back to the barn and carefully eased open the doors and went inside. I left one of the doors open so that if I needed to beat a hasty retreat I wouldn't have to crash through the doors. I then got as close as I dared to the nest , I took careful aim and drenched the wasp covered nest with spray ! And I mean drenched. I soaked the damn thing and every wasp I could see. I emptied the WHOLE can on those suckers and got every single one. It was glorious !! My attack had been a total suprise. I have never seen so many dead wasps in one place.
I brought out the small brush and dustpan, got the nest and dead wasps scooped up and put it all into a plastic bag. I tossed the bag into the trash, went into the house and got cleaned up, had some lunch. What a day. I think I need a nap.
