It’s official: Harrison Ford will be returning to the silver screen as a cowboy … or an Indian or an alien. According to entertainment industry sources, the actor has signed on to Jon Favreau’s blockbuster-to-be, Cowboys and Aliens. The director’s next project after Iron Man 2, the film will be an adaptation of a graphic novel about Old West settlers and Apache Indians who join forces to combat an alien invasion in Silver City, Nevada. You know, typical everyday stuff.

The film will also star Daniel Craig (a.k.a. James Bond) and the lovely Olivia Wilde. No word on yet on who Harrison Ford will play, but his presence in a sci-fi Western seems like a perfect fit. Though the action star has never previously donned a cowboy hat in his films, he certainly made fedoras cool again as Indiana Jones.

Cowboys and Aliens is currently set for a 2011 release.
