It's another typical day (for this year) gloomy, wet, cold, and a less than anticipated forcast for the weekend. Spring break is here, kids are home, so everything is a tad more amped up than usual. In otherwords, my routine has be disrupted!
I was enlightened by my daughter this week. Coming in from the barn, in a determined stride (which always alerts me something is amiss) she announced she was going to start roping. I nodded my head as the words were sinking in and took a deep breath. I told her that was a great skill to master and one she would use often.
Grinning, she began telling me how she'd been roping around in the arena. When I asked her what she was roping she gleefully answered, "a chair." Trying not to miss a beat (or chuckle aloud), I asked if she was practicing for breakaway, heading, or heeling? "Well, heeling of course" was her answer.
(I'm not going to tell her the roping dummy belonging to her older brother is around somewhere and would probably be better practice, I'll save that for later.) How could I possibly miss out on watching her rope her chair for a few weeks?
About that time my uncle called and I told him about our cowgirl's latest plan. He asked to speak with her and for the longest time she had a very intent look on her face, obviously taking in every word he said. With a burst of laughter she finished the call and handed me the phone. His words of wisdom were plentiful and I'm afraid she's out looking for a goat that will run! Wonder what else he told her?
Heaven help me as I shudder thinking of what she has up her sleeve the remaining of the week.
In the mean time, I'll continue to trudge through the mud, cursing under my breath as my mud boots are sucked off with nearly each step, find solice being with the horses, and pray for even a small glimps of sunshine as the forcast calls for possible snow this weekend. Geesh, I thought it was supposed to be spring!
