Old Dog Learns New Tricks

We live the western way
What has a group of volunteers with the Wing Horse Club smiling with confidence? Progress. That’s right… Progress. The Wing Horse Club has been around since 1947, but this old dog has learned a few new tricks for setting a strong course for the upcoming rodeo season.
In January, a handful of members passionate about giving back to the community and earning respect in the rodeo industry, reviewed and embraced all the wise decisions that had been made over the past years to keep the organization going and identified a few areas for improvement. They interviewed neighboring rodeo committees, spoke with rodeo association representatives, worked with stock contractors, contestants, judges, pickup men, sponsors, and pretty much anyone with a good business mind along the way. Armed with enough new tricks to drum up what is expected to be one of the largest amateur rodeos in North Dakota this year, the Wing Horse Club continues to talk through their growth action plan.
Wing Horse Club President Darrell Oswald said, “Between the diverse set of talent on this board, and the strong response from the community, we feel we can tackle ideas that we only dreamed about five years ago.” In a handful of meetings already this year they’ve managed to layout events for the entire season including a Rodeo June 11-12, a Playday August 7, and a North Dakota Junior High Rodeo October 3. We may also consider hosting additional events such as a 4 wheeler trail ride or maybe even a Jackpot Event or a Barrel Racing School, based on the interest of the members. The Wing Horse Club rodeo grounds is located just south of Wing along Highway 14 and the view just about takes your breathe away on a quiet summer evening.
The Wing Horse Club is a family oriented organization that embraces the western way of life, promotes sportsmanship, and a sense of giving back to the community for all ages. Regardless of your level of rodeo and horsemanship interests, you're sure to enjoy the networking with others involved in this industry. They’ve vowed to produce an event at 110% of their ability… just like the rodeo contestants do every time they knock their head.
If you’d like more information on any of the events that they’re planning visit www.winghorseclub.com.
