One of the things that I like about American Cowboy magazine is that it promotes both the craft and the culture of ... well ... the American cowboy. And, few people embody both that craft and culture as Tom Selleck does.

Philip Armour did right by both the craft and the culture of the American writer in his feature, "My heroes have always been cowboys," about the life and recent award for Tom Selleck, in the Aug/Sep 2010 issue.

I don't gush over stars. There are very few people in Hollywood that I'd want to meet, but Tom Selleck is very high on that short list.

It's difficult to pin down my favorite Tom Selleck role, but perhaps Monte Walsh comes closest. That character bridged the gap between old and new. Philip Armour's insightful article did likewise -- spanning Selleck's lengthy career via snippets, while wrapping the piece around Selleck's recent induction into the Hall of Great Western Performers (a well-deserved award).

The feeling that I got after reading the article was that same satisfied feeling that one gets while looking over one's shoulder at sunset, and seeing the herd grazing safely. Or, the feeling at the end of a Tom Selleck movie or TV episode. That feeling compels the simple words: "well done".
