I am embarking on Cowboy Mounted Shooting this Spring. Any suggestions on where I can fire a batch of different manufacturers guns? I have held a Ruger and Colt and would love to shoot these and more before I purchase.

Is there a demo day for guns- just like the have for golf, bike and skiing?

Thanks

.45s and Clones

The Ruger Vaquero is a far better pistol than the Colt or any of its other clones. Before you buy, conduct a survey among mounted shooters or SASS members. You'll likely find they agree with me. Now that I've said that and got it off my chest, I've been making do with a matched pair of Cabela's Millennium brand .45 Colt clones made by the very good Italian manufacturer Uberti. I did some SASS shooting a while but now just carry them for general use. They're ten years old. I had to replace one hammer and have the lock-up improved.

The famous SASS shooter Evil Roy endorses a clone that is supposed to be real good.

Some shops have their own

Some shops have their own firing range.

Check with your local gun club, etc.

Have fun.
