Well since RFD TV bought Trigger and Bullit they have started showing all the old Roy Rogers films. Their just as good as they were back in the 40s. Sorry Clint but you have taken a second place with me lol.

Shooter is a really good non-cowboy movie. Make sure to check out the older movies, 'cuz there are a bunch out there that were made before you were born that are really good.

My favorite Western is High Noon with Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges, and a great supporting cast. High Noon was known as the first of the Psychological Westerns, with the struggle Cooper goes thru on his wedding day. I've not seen anyone mention Marlon Brando in 'One Eyed Jacks' or 'Missouri Breaks'. with Jack Nicholson... Of course, McMurtry's four books about Gus McRae and Woodrow Call, of which Lonesome Dove was the third, is a great western series. The newer Westerns like Unforgiven and Open Range are really good. I'm looking forward to seeing the remake of 'True Grit' just to see if Lloyd Bridges (High Noon, Sea Hunt) boy can hold a candle to the Duke....

Don't even ask!!! I could never name just one!!! It would be a western though! I do like El Dorado that has John Wayne and Robert Mitchum in it, but I could never pick my ABSOLUTE favorite!!!

I enjoy some cowboy movies, most notably Lonesome Dove and 8 Seconds. I can't believe there hasn't been many mentions of Lonesome Dove in this topic. I enjoy 8 Seconds just for the fact it's about Lane Frost. As far as other western-stlye movies, you can't go wrong with The Unforgiven or 3:10 to Yuma.
I also enjoy sports movies. Some of my favorites from that genre include Varsity Blues and Remember the Titans. I also watched The Blind Side at the end of 2009, and it was very good.
And who doesn't like a good comedy from time-to-time? Talladega Nights still makes me laugh every time I watch it.

I love horror movies. Most of the recent ones are terrible; however, I do like the decent about the women that get lost in the cave. That movie made me jump for the first time in a long time.
but I do have a very girly side too. I like Sabrina, the Audrey Hepburn one.
I apologize LA_cowgirl21 - - Favorite is a lot different than best. My favorite movie of all time is probably way removed from the best list but I remember it because it meant a lot to me when I first saw it -- WESTSIDE STORY --. As a simple country boy in Iowa, I can still remember watching all the singing and dancing from people I had no idea ever existed. Very early '60s and it blew me away...
Now that we are on the subject of movies! How many of you have considered the different movies about the Vietnam war? Sure we all know the "Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, etc etc", that show the carnage and war as some saw it in combat. But when you consider that 9 out of 10 who served in Vietnam were NON-combat troops, what movie hits closer to home?
May I suggest - "Casualties of War" with Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn; "Good morning Vietnam" with Robin Williams; and "Born on the Fourth of July" with Tom Cruise... Your eyes are opened to what the majority saw and came home with from Vietnam.

Thats ok Concretecowboy. Man I havent seen Westside Story since my High School made us watch it after we read the book for it. Was a good one I have to say.
My favorite war movies would have to be We Were Soldiers, Behind Enemy Lines, and Stealth.

You have to break it down by genre or category of type of movie to be fair.
Western - High Noon
Action - Raiders of the Lost Ark
Comedy - Blazing Saddles
War movie - Good Morning Vietnam
Drama - GRAND TORINO
Science Fiction - Close Encounters
The list goes on but perhaps the best movie over all - CITIZEN KANE -

I decided to watch We Were Soldiers tonight. Recently found it and forgot I had bought it. Did not realize that Sam Elliot was in this movie! Heard the guy voice as Mel Gibsons second hand man in the movie and said to my dad that it sounded like him. Dad of course says "No that doesnt look like him!" So I check up on the movie online and sure enough its him!!! Wow! Anyway...Just thought I'd share!
