Horse Flies
The horse fly problem here is already bad. It's only May and the temperatures are already in the high 90's. We have tried all kinds of fly sprays and nothing seems to help. The horses are just miserable, stomping their feet, tail swishing. What kind of sprays have worked the best for you?

Our local feed store carries a product called Horse n Pony spray - BUT the one that works the best is the oil based spray - and it works just as well if not better than the high dollar ones. You can also get recipies online to make your own - again the best are oil imulsified/based ones. Another one I have used is Avon Skin so Soft - yes I know sounds weird - but it does work - put it in a spray bottle and dilute it slightly - the added benefit is that your horse smells wonderful and it conditions their coat. A friend of mine mixes one up using Pine-Sol and she swears by it (she got the recipie online) I am just not so sure I want my horse smelling like that.
Good luck!!

Thanks for your help. I had forgot about the skin so soft. I know of people that use it to keep mosquitos away. So I guess why not use it on your horse. I'll give it a try.
