In your latest issue, there's an article about best Western places to live and you put Salinas, CA as #1.
As a California native, (born in California and lived on the Monterey Peninsula for most of my life), I think that Kevin Carmody who wrote that article didn't do enough research to know that Salinas has a huge crime rate. The Hispanic gang community is a big problem and King City to the south of Salinas is now becoming almost as bad. There are shootings almost daily and not many areas in Salinas that are safe anymore. The County jail is in Salinas, and the gang activity has gotten so out-of-hand that their chief of police recently retired out of sheer frustration with the situation.
I felt that this article was very misleading, because it isn't a safe place to live until they figure out how to clean up this terrible situation.
