Are there any new Westerns being made? We have had a pretty good run with 3:10 to Yuma, and Appalossa. I have heard there might be a re-make of True Grit.

Django Unchained.

Quentin Tarantino's Next to be Titled Django Unchained
Source: Various
May 1, 2011

Quentin Tarantino's agency WME has confirmed that Quentin Tarantino has turned in the final draft of his spaghetti Western to The Weinstein Company. The movie, to be titled Django Unchained, will be produced by Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction) and Pilar Savone.

WME also confirmed to Thompson on Hollywood that Inglourious Basterds star Christoph Waltz will reunite with Tarantino for the film.

Tarantino previously described the project as follows:

"I'd like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let's shine that light on ourselves. You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it 'A Southern.'"

A commenter at Hollywood Elsewhere claims to have read the script and describes it further as follows:

"The title character Django is a freed slave, who under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a badass bounty hunter himself and after assisting Waltz on taking down some bad guys for profit, is in turn assisted by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn't even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I've rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it's 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglourious and you'll get a sense of what he's doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one. It's violent and funny and full of great Tarantino monologues and shoot outs (and slave rapes and slave tortures) and the center piece of the script is this fantastic relationship between Django and his Obi-Wan Waltz and it all just f*cking works in the way only Tarantino makes it work."

The movie is expected to start production this year still. Here's a look at the script's cover page, thanks to Tarantino.info:

New westerns

Howdy, all.

Anything about this new western with 19 year old boy and 18 year old mail order bride? Who's in it?

Also, any more folks see True Grit remake? So far, all very good. I'm glad. Like Jeff Bridges.

Yeah I loved the movie. It is truly one of the better new movies out there right now. I wish that it had received some awards cause I think that it was def worthy.

Awesome Western In Development

The UnBroken (set in 1862) is a fast-paced, action-western, love story about, COLT, a 19 year-old, Arizona mining town orphan who risks everything to rescue, SALOR, his 18 year-old, mail-order bride, from the east who is kidnapped during a stagecoach robbery by a ruthless, renegade band of REGULATORS while on her cross-country journey to be with her new young husband.

The UnBroken is a story of uncommon courage and commitment, frontier fighting spirit and friendship and the righting of an unspeakable wrong. It is about wanting and being wanted, about needing and being needed.

The UnBroken is about the lawlessness of the old west being overcome by honest guns and young love.

New Western movies

Hello, Anonymous.

Jonah Hex told me that the remake of True Grit made with Jeff Bridges in the Duke's role is due out at Christmas time.

I do like Jeff Bridges but I do feel that the role belongs to the Duke. However, I hope whoever does see the movie enjoys it.

While there is very little

While there is very little information at the moment it looks like a big screen remake of the TV classic "The Big Valley" is also in the works.

New Westerns

A sci-fi western, A sci-fi western you have to be kidding me. Some questions come to mind here. !. what in the world is a sci-fi western? is it like star wars with cowboy hats? and instead of going to the death star, they go to the emperors ranch? 2. what is western about sci-fi, and what sci-fi about westerns? Not a thing, westerns are and aways will be about the old WEST. No hollywood this is no western, go back under your rocks you live in, and make more of the movies everyone does not want to see, like a "sci-fi western" and Avatar (the surf killing movie, as Glenn Beck called it). So no I will not be seeing this movie at all.

Think they did the Legend of Butch and Sundance in the last few years. Haven't heard of anything recently though.
