Roy: The King of Cowboys
I just finished reading my Dec/Jan issue of American Cowboy. I SO enjoyed the article on Roy Rogers. I grew up on Dale & Roy, The Lone Ranger, Bonanza, The Rifleman, etc. etc. etc. Reading about Roy and the Roy Rogers Riders Club (which, alas, I was NOT a member of), it struck me like a thunderbolt. If somehow, some way, kids could have continued to be influenced by the tenets of the RR Riders Club, we wouldn't be in the sorry mess we're in now. I know it's naive in this very cynical day and age, but I can't help but believe that if people really believed in being "courteous and polite"; "protect the weak"; "study hard"; "always respect our flag and country" and taught their children those things, this old world would be a lot better off.
I fully agree with DNoland!
I remember Roy, Gene, Lash and many others.
Going to the Saturday matinees every week more years ago than I care to admit.
Those were good times and I truly miss them, they are gone forever.
We have (IMHO) slipped downhill in many ways.
RIP Roy
