True Grit
What are your thoughts on the upcoming version of True Grit? I like Jeff Bridges and feel that he is one of only 3 living actors capable of doing justice to the character of Rooster Cogburn. Whereas the original movie injected cute humor into the story, the previews I've seen paint a darker picture. According to Jeff Bridges, this version tries to stay closer to the storyline of the novel. I was skeptical when I heard True Grit had been remade, but from the things I've seen and read, this movie promises to be a quality western film.

The line "show me the Money" made famous in the movie Jerry Maguire has just hit note in TRUE GRIT 2010. The original film of 1969 won an OSCAR for best actor award to John Wayne. However, TRUE GRIT 2010 in two weeks has made more money than the original has in over forty years. The first movie was great. The remake, even better.
Bob Boze Bell said earlier today, "True Grit has passed the $100 mil mark ($110.4) and looks to pass Wild, Wild West ($113 mil, 1999) and may even catch Dances With Wolves ($184.2, 1990). Very encouraging." Very encouraging indeed for the return of some well made Westerns....the key word is well made as True Grit 2010 is well made....
It really doesn't matter who played a better Roaster Cogburn, who was a better Ned Pepper.....it comes down to show me the money and for the Coen brothers, they made a sincere hit as this will be nominated for several academy awards. Now the question is, will it receive one or more awards.
Last year Bridges received an Academy award for his country role in "Crazy Hearts" which makes in nearly impossible to receive back to back awards two years in a roll. However, I do see him being nominated for his outstanding performance in this movie along with several other nominations.
There will continue to be folks who loved John Wayne better than Jeff Bridges, others will side with Bridges over the Duke and at least a few dozen who are just happy it was a western to watch and liked them both, but when it comes to production and movies, just like operating a ranch, a farm, or any business, it's about profits.
This movie was expecting to reach 100 million projection according to some earlier reviews. She already pass this mark in two weeks. Another week, movie goers will have already seen the movie and a few more will be added. I'm not sure it will surpass "Dancing with Wolves" although it has a good four more weeks before going to the discount theaters. It just may become the greatest money making western of all time.

There are no sacred cows being slaughtered here. The Coen brothers will deliver another top notch movie for us all to enjoy, and it's a western!
Jeff Bridges will be excellent in his portrayal of Cogburn, Matt Damon will definately be better than Glen Campbell ever was, and young Hailee Steinfeld (who was 13 at the time of shooting) will play her 14 year old character with the integrity of someone who is actually that age. Kim Darby was 22 playing a 14 year old for cryin' out loud.
The Duke's film will always be a classic, and it's the role that won him his elusive Oscar ... but film making has come a long way since 1969, and the Coen brothers are some of the best tale tellers out there.

I'm looking forward to seeing it just 'cuz it's a Western. Nobody can copy the 'Duke', but there's more than one way to tell a story.

Somehow it just seams sacrilegious to me. That would be like a remake of Casablanca No one could pull it off. Some movies just cant be remade. I will watch it one day I'm sure and see how I feel then. Also I have seen the remake of stagecoach it sucked it had a good cast but it still sucked. But I think it could be much worse they could have used Kris Kristofferson And I still don't think Jeff Bridges can pull it off.

I've thought it over and am looking forward to seeing the movie. My first reaction was no way. How could anyone even think of trying to fill the Duke's boots? Then I thought about it and watched the trailer. Jeff Bridges will be terrific in the role since this movie seems to be true to the book, which I read when the original came out.
Jeff Bridges will bring a different POV and I will enjoy this movie.
Happy Trails.
Personally, I'm looking at this as not a remake of a John Wayne classic, but as a new version of a classic novel.
Let;s face it, some books seem to get remade a lot, look how many versions there are of "The Hound Of The Baskervilles", "A Christmas Carol", "Dracula", The Three Musketeers"
"Tarzan"& "Frankenstein" just to name a few.
some are great, some are not but we all have are favorites.
So lets let this film stand on it's own. It may just surprise us and be good.
Besides, if you still want to call it a remake of a Duke film it wouldn't be the first one.
"Stagecoach" has been remade a couple of times
and if I remember right, there was a TV version of "True Grit" made with Warren Oates.
So lets just wait and see.
He had two companions, this Jonah Hex...one was the acrid smell of
gunsmoke...the other was Death itself.
like Jonah Hex said
but you cant remake a classic and just add some stuff that was not in the first movie and call it a good movie but action looks pretty good. if it dose not have the line FILL YOUR HAND YOU SON OFF A BITCH it can not be called true grit. this movie follow the book more than the Dukes movie
