true grit- new lead chosen

Coen Brothers Find ‘True Grit’ Lead
Posted on 23 February 2010 by Jordan Raup in News
The Coen Brothers‘ True Grit is easily one of my most anticipated films of the year. Both No Country For Old Men and A Serious Man were my favorite films of that year, not to mention the rest of the modern masterpieces in their filmography. Their next stars Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Bridges. The film will focus on a young girl and we knew the Coens wanted a unknown actress. It has now been confirmed by Deadline, after auditioning 15,000 girls that Hailee Steinfeld will be Mattie Ross. She is not a complete unknown, as you can see a few of her credits here.
The True Grit remake is said to be more faithful to the original Charles Portis novel than the 1969 film adaptation, which John Wayne won an Oscar for. The novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father’s killer in hostile Indian territory. The Coen’s version will tell the tale from the girl’s point of view, unlike the John Wayne film, which focused strictly on his character.

Hi Double_Tap_Jack, just read your post and had to repliy. Yes sir I have wached Roy and Dale and yes you can tell they spent a little time in the saddel, but their not the only ones. I like to wach the old "b" westerns from the 40s and 50s back then they didnt hold nothen back. The stunts that where done on horse back where simplly amazing. Yes Sir they dont makem like that no more.
I will watch this one as I try to never miss any western movie that comes out. Saldy, there are not enough of them
I will have to close my memory bank to block out the original so I don't do a comparrison. Every movie should stand or fail on it's own merits.
What next, a remake of High Noon or Shane? I certainly hope not.
Actually there was a remake of "High Noon" a few years ago. It had Tom Skeritt and aired on cable station TNT. It was a decent film as far as remakes go but the original is still better.
And skip the God awful "sequel" they made about 25 years ago with Lee Majors. Just terrible.
He had two companions, this Jonah Hex...one was the acrid smell of
gunsmoke...the other was Death itself.
Hi Nighthawsh,Your right. theres semply no way to beat the best.

I would like to see a movie made about Roy and Dale and how there movies and music influenced America. A remake of the Cisco Kid would be fun as well as a movie based on the life of Juaquin Murretta and the early California Gold Rush.
I think it is time for some good music with songs a family could sing around the campfire.
Have any of you ever really watched Roy and Dale ride and noticed the high degree of skill and horsemanship that they displayed.
Regards,
