Who is your favorite western artist?
Now I'm not real familiar with a lot of western artists. I get a calendar each year from a local business that has art work by Tim Cox. He is a fantastic artist! The only draw back is that as I go about my work I look at the calendar and wish I was out riding.
So who's your favorite?
I think we need to bring more ideas for this purpose. Involvement of young people can be handy in this regard. I am happy to find a good post here. philadelphia slip and fall lawyers
Not familiar with the artists either but would very much like to find out. Any helpful links ot pointers on where to find out?
I admit that I am a little biased when I cast a vote for Mr. Russell because of his Montanan roots. His work presents the West in such a beautiful, and yet rugged light.
Another Montana artist, who is not as recognized as Mr. Russell, is a man I graduated with from Butte, Montana. His name is Mike Hamblin and his work is absolutely some of the best in the world.
Enjoy.

I have a friend who is a very famous modern artist. In discussing art one day he said, "Art is a personal thing. It doesn't make any difference what someone else thinks or says about any piece of art, it's how it makes you feel. It's what you get out of it that's important."
I agree. If you like a piece of art, get it for how it makes you feel. Don't worry about the name on the corner, or whether it's signed at all. That is what makes it a significant piece of art FOR YOU, and that's what is important.

My two favorite are C.M. Russell of course (being from Montana), and a young artist from Butte, Montana named Mike Hamblin. He may be working out of Missoula now. Both are wonderful artists. I also enjoy any artist who paints or draws "The Duke."

Top of the list: Pedro Lazcano and Porfirio Salinas who captured the beautiful western landscapes of the Texas Hill Country and the floral beauty of Texas Blue Bonnets.
Dawson-Watson who born in England and lived in France for a short time before moving to the United States. He was a school teach in St Louis who took a trip to San Antonio and fell in love with the culture and scenery of South Texas. His paintings were not just western, but everything he found of interest.
Robert Wood who probably painted more works of the landscape of the United States than any artist in the annals of American art. The English-born artist painted the mountains, deserts, forests and seashores of America for almost sixty years. Wood was a facile painter, and once he reached artistic maturity in the late 1920s, his output was prodigious, often a painting or more a day. Pedro Lazcano and Porfirio Salinas both studied under Robert Wood and remarkably, copy and paint with an exact style.
Who doesn't like Charles Russel and Frederick Remington. Both excellent artist, though neither true cowboy's by definition. They both immortalize the trail drives, horsemen, outlaws and life of the American West.

It has to be Russell he was the real deal
Definately Charley Russell, I especially like his lesser know stuff from when he was an illustrator of books and calendars.
I like the old masters; Charley Russell, Remington, Catlin.
But I like almost anything old,,,lol
Wow, that's a tough call. Talk about an embarrassment of riches. What medium?
In terms of men who saw the Old West with their own eyes, the photography of Edward Curtis and the sculptures Frederic Remington certainly capture the spirit.

Well im not familiar with the artists but my favorite type of western art are the pencil drawings that can be found online to be purchased as a portrait to hang up. They are just beautiful!
