•Fancy embroidery, especially floral, is one of the most popular trends in ladies’ cowboy boots this season. Ariat’s Presidio Collection for fall 2011 ($300 a pair) is the one to watch, with several new design that feature leather inlay, cutouts, and colorful embroidery. We’re also fans of Ariat’s patented ATS technology—the unique gel foot beds and forked fiber shanks make for unequaled comfort.

• Wider belts for women tastefully accent the waist and are all the rage. This season, three-inch wide, embossed floral and reptile prints look smart in fall tones of dark red, honey, tobacco, and chocolate brown. Kristyn DeBord, in charge of women’s accessories at Double J Saddlery of Yoakum, Texas, explains that the super-smooth belt linings of her products are made of the same fine Herman Oak skirting leather that her father works into his award-winning saddles.

• Patterns are back. (Stripes and solids are so yesterday!) Michael Ryan—CEO of Ryan Michael—suggests paisley patterns for fall, either in a woven jacquard or as an overprinted, double-dyed cotton shirt in great colors like purple, red, brown, and blue. Celebrity spotters have seen Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges, and Matthew McConaughey in his label recently.

• Classic plaid, however, never goes out of style. You can wear Rockmount Ranch Wear’s Model 691 men’s shirt anywhere. The saw-tooth pocket, diamond pearl snap, curved V-yoke, black and white shadow plaid (with perfectly matched seams) look vintage yet fresh.

• No one wants to buy products that harm the planet. Product innovator/manufacturer Lisa Mattingly of Pooch Snoozer produces dog beds, throw pillows, and even saddle pads filled with recycled shredded plastic bottles. Covers and fills are washable and durable—and green. On the Range is her assortment of faux fur cowhide prints and water repellent wide-wale corduroy.

• Entertainment watch: Stetson hats appear in the Steven Spielberg-produced Cowboys & Aliens; in the upcoming Turner Network remake of Dallas; on FX Network’s series Justified; and in the upcoming Hell on Wheels, an AMC production about the aftermath of the Civil War.
