God Fearing Cowboys
The true Cowboy way is a God fearing way. We are to do everything for the Glory of God and that's the aim of the group.
Fearing God?
Posted by McLintock on Thu, 2010-02-11 21:41
Hey, just what to know what everyone thinks about what Fearing God means. It would also be great if you used Scripture to back up what you say.

Knowing who He is...
Dave4HIS_glory — Tue, 2010-08-24 12:02From reading the comments I see most of the scriptures on fearing the Lord have been brought out.
For me fearing Him, is knowing He's exactly who scripture says He is, a omniscient, omnipotent, loving creator.
Howdy!
Galatians 2:20
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live ; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me
Fear God
BigHoss — Sun, 2010-08-01 18:09Psalms 25:12 says: "What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose." (KJV)
To fear the Lord is to recognize him for who he is: Holy, almighty, righteous, pure, all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-wise. We can see God in this light, we also see ourselves for who we are: sinful, weak, frail, and needy. When we recognize God for who he is and ourselvs for who we are, we will fall flat at his feet. Only there can he teach us how to choose the best-which are his ways, not ours.
Praise Jesus!
Your brother in Christ,
BigHoss
P.S. Thanks for creating this group.
God loves and He doesn't want
david — Mon, 2010-07-26 19:35God loves and He doesn't want us to be afraid. And if you live right, there's no need to fear anything.
It's like if you drive a car within the speed limit, there's no fear of getting caught for speeding. (Of course, some people drive too fast and have no fear. We call such people 'fools'.)
The fear of the LORD... ..is
JerryD — Mon, 2010-07-19 12:39The fear of the LORD...
..is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline (Proverbs 1:7).
...is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding (Psalm 111:10).
...is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10).
We keep these three things in mind in our VBS.
Fear of God
wy — Fri, 2010-06-11 19:42QUOTE: "Hey, just what to know what everyone thinks about what Fearing God means. It would also be great if you used Scripture to back up what you say."
Matthew 10:28 KJV And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
While God is best experienced in LOVE and compassion, He is also is a "consuming fire" (Heb 12:29) who can send someone to hell. That lingering fear is what draws us to God's mercy and kindness for pardon of sin. When one finds pardon and is divinely washed from sin and its effects, you will find that fear changing to a reverence for God.
If you are not sure you are going to heaven. Come to Jesus in prayer and ask for forgiveness for sin and then attend a lively 'Bible based' church or cowboy church to find out the rest.

elenitsa — Sat, 2010-07-17 12:05We used to sing a mixture of them when I was growing up. We seem to sing more of the "worship music" that they have on the radio now. Sometimes the guy who leads worship will get out some of the old songs or even sing the hymns.

First time here...
Flunky — Fri, 2010-04-16 21:58I just gotta say I'm sure glad this group's around. I'm a christian, I know that much, but as long as organized religion is concerned, I'm not too sure about anything anymore.
I was brought up by my grandparents, and while gramma was big on religion, my grampa was more about being tough and true to yourself.
I seen preaches do stuff that makes me sick to the guts, seen kids abused, drug crap... I don't know what to believe.
I do know there's a God, and while sometimes I reckon he oughta be too busy to listen to me, I know the fact that I'm still around must be a sign. That's how I see it. I take it that you don't have to go to a church to pray and for God to listen.
I give all I can, sometimes way more than I should, and been called names for that. I'm big on helping needy horses and dogs, but I don't give a dime to tv preachers and the such.
I know maybe that makes me bad, but I ain't gonna lie about it.
I think God would be happier if us people learned to get along just a bit better, pretty sure he'd like that, but it's hard to do sometimes, way harder than writing a check, specially if you're rich.
TV preachers
MacB — Sat, 2011-10-29 21:09it's to sad to see and hear what most of those tv preachers say and do. Many things happen in churches also that should not be but that doesn't change who He is or who we are. We must live for Him no matter what the rest of the world does, just try and show them the right way. The Bible is true, God IS God and in the end every knee will bow to Him. There are still a few good preachers left but it is up to us to live our lives in the spirit of Christ, to live righteously and love and encourage one another.

I don't usually post on this
nighthawksh — Wed, 2010-04-14 07:13I don't usually post on this topic, but felt the need to here, in response to the "God fearing" issue.
I never have liked that concept, fearing a diety. Is not the Christian God a loving and forgiving God? I fear nothing other than possible physical dangers to my family and loved ones. I have no fear of the "afterlife." I do have a healthy respect for dangers to myself and others, but not what I would call fear. I believe the word fear, just like the word love, is far too often missused and overused. Perhaps a word such as "respect" could be used in place of "fear."
As to the "church" issue, my church is the great outdoors, my "religion" is love of life, and my "prayers" are the contemplation of life and my place in it.
My most serene and peaceful times are when riding a good horse across Mother Nature's greatness, enjoying all she has to offer.
I leave the spirtuality to others.
Sorry if I offend anyone. If so, I suppose the admins here can just delete this post.
Fearing God
MacB — Sat, 2011-10-29 21:14A better translation where we are instructed to fear God is "respect God"
God fearing or God forgiving?
Rocky Mountain Honey — Wed, 2010-04-28 08:18I have to agree with you here. I am an active Catholic Baptized, etc My little one (he's 8) So he will be doing his first holy communion in June. I know there has been tons of controversy on Priests and such. I think those are few encounters and are very wrong. In my little community we have had good priests. We also attend the Baptist church and Assemblies of God (Christian I believe) I grew up with the comment of " It don't matter where you go to church at as long as you have your faith! ) I do my best prayin when I'm miles from town up in the mountains with no one around but God and I.

La_cowgirl21 — Sat, 2010-04-17 21:57Well being that its your opinion I dont see why anyone should be offended. Its how you feel.
I definitely fear God. According to the Bible, Fear of the Lord is a reverential awe of God; a reverence for His power and glory. However, it is also a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is a total acknowledgement of all that God is. I mean look at all he created. I'm sure anyone would agree that there is evidence in his work by just looking around in the great outdoors that we are blessed with spending time in. This is just my take on it.

religion
John T — Sat, 2010-02-13 18:10I go to a catholic church, but sometimes I go to other churches, protestant. The fear of god to me means you could be in alot of trouble for the things you have done. Also you should fear god as you would your parents when you were younger. I am not versed in the bible as you guys are so please do not take offense to my opinion on this. Don't make me more afraid than I need to be:) I think It takes alot to interpet the bible as it should be, the reason I say this is because I have experienced people (friends, co-workers)doing and saying things that weren't in the spirit of the word- these People were very serious about studying the book and understanding its meaning, and like I said they still did and said things that were contradictory to thier faith. I don't hold them in balme for that, I just chaulk it up to them being human. Just my opion.
Religion
Cowgirl at heart — Sun, 2010-02-21 18:13I am sorry to say I have to agree with you!. I have been going to a couple of different Bible study groups and I try on my own to interpret what the bible is trying to teach me, and I still to this day have a hard time with it. So I really do try to watch what I say around other people.

McLintock — Sun, 2010-02-21 19:28Cowgirl at heart, you can not interpret the bible on your own, all it will led to is wrong doctrine. Scripture interprets Scripture. You can not read one verse at a time, to interpret Scripture rightly you must read the whole passage, follow the thought of the writer. And search the Scriptures on what else it says on the subject at hand. In other words you do not need a outside source to interpret Scripture.

Christian, nondenominational-full gospel church
smiles4miles — Tue, 2010-04-13 19:23Hi, I also attend a full gospel church and consider myself Christian. One reader mentioned how interpreting the Bible on your own can lead to misinterpretation of certain meanings and I agree with that. I have a great Pastor (his wife's a Pastor too) and those teachings and interpretations...applications in my day to day life really do help me keep my feet on the ground and be as much of a blessing to others as I can be.

Thankful
McLintock — Mon, 2010-02-01 15:55We as Christians need and must be thankful for our pastor. I have been going to the church I attend of about a year and a half, and I am grateful that God as lead me to Victory Baptist Church. As I look back at all the Lord as done in my christian walk, I realized that I would still be a "baby christian". I recall a passage in Romans 10:14 "How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? So we need to think God for the wisdom He has given our preacher/pastor. He is the one the Holy Spirit uses to expound the Word to us. We also need to pray for our pastor, because he is Christ under-shepherd, and as he study's for the weeks message's. also his health.
Also my pastors message's is at sermonaudio.com/victorybaptist

I'm Christian but would love to attend a Cowboy service sometime...seems very down to earth, like me. It was very interesting to read about real life Cowboys who also happen to live a Christian life. Very encouraging to see.

proverbs31 — Mon, 2010-02-01 18:43Has is Tobi doing? I have thought of her often today; we prayed for her earlier. Tell the parents to be sure to keep those ears covered with or without an infection, and even if the wind doesn't seem to be blowing.

Thanks! She finally got over
La_cowgirl21 — Sat, 2010-02-06 22:49Thanks! She finally got over the partial ear infection that the doc said she had. Was doing good for a few weeks. Now my sister-in-law is saying that she is getting sick again. It's because of this weather we are having. One day its warmer out and the next its freezing cold. She was real fussy tonight. She is not one to just sit around but tonight she just laid on my shoulder while I was visiting over there.

Sunday Morn the 17
McLintock — Sun, 2010-01-17 16:53This morning in sunday school my pastor continued a series on the Ten Commandments. We looked at the eighth commandment " You shall not steal" and at Judas the thief John 12:1-8. Where does stealing start? Where will it end? What does stealing involve? Will let me tell you it involves, taking something that is not yours, not paying a worker fair wages, keeping God's tithe (Malachi 3:8-10), and so much more we do not realize. So my challenge to ya'll is to look at how much you do steal, O you may not think you do, but look truthfully at your sinful nature and you will see that you do.

Conferences
McLintock — Wed, 2010-01-13 15:44Hey, just wanted to tell ya'll about two conferences: Together for the Gospel, April 13-15 Louisville,KY there website is www.t4g.org ( I listen to the messages from the 2008 conference a lot). The other one is August 3-5 at my chruch in Kansas City,MO, it is our 29th conference and it will be on Revival, you can go to www.victorybaptist.us and go to 2010 conference link.

Hymns or not
McLintock — Mon, 2010-01-11 17:48Just wanted to get everyone in the group to tell if your chruch sings just hymns, "worship music" (songs writin in the past 20-30 years or so), or maybe both, or even the Psalms. Here at Victory Baptist we sing only Hymns.

Hymns or Contemporary
BigHoss — Sun, 2010-08-01 18:17We sing mainly ol' fashioned hymns, but we will get "crazy" once in awhile and sing something a little more contemporary. As long as the music glorifies the Holy of Holies, I do not really care what type music other churches sing. It is all about worsipping a risen, living Savior.
Praise the Lord for the men and women who stand up daily in His name!

theasmith — Tue, 2010-02-02 21:45At our church, (and the ones we've attended in the past) we sing only the old hymns with a few newer "hymns" that were written in recent years (Majesty Hymnal) but still convey the style of the older ones.

La_cowgirl21 — Mon, 2010-01-11 18:30We used to sing a mixture of them when I was growing up. We seem to sing more of the "worship music" that they have on the radio now. Sunday Morn
McLintock — Sun, 2010-01-10 18:33Hey just wanted to tell you about the morning sermon. The text was Galatians 6:14 "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world". So the subject we looked at is Glorying in the Cross and we looked at all the stuff we glory in, and what it means to glorying in the cross. And the only way to glory in the cross is to look to Christ as your Lord and Savior, and to know salvation is 100% of God and not even .00000000000001% our doing.
