Missouri Mavericks
To have a place where Missouri Cowboys and Cowgirls can meet to share experiences and happenings. One need not be an equine owner, rider, or driver. Enthusiasts are welcome, as are others from bordering states. Also, a place where events can be posted for all to participate as equestrians or spectators.
Meet Doc
I did a blog on Doc, but I haven't introduced him to the group. Meet Doc. He's 4 this year, sorrel with a flaxen mane & tail. Doc's a friendly sort, 15.1 hh, and friendly towards people. He has already informed all the other mules that he's top mule in the South pasture. I'm hoping fur won't fly when he and Willie meet. Willie stays in the North pasture.
What's Hapnin' Now
Check out my latest blog, 'Here We Go Again'... I just made a deal to buy 3 more mules. 2 white mules, a John and a Molly, and a Sorrel Molly with white stockings on all four legs. I'll be picking them up later this week. All 3 are yearling mules, born last summer. I'll be posting some electric photos after I get them home. My wife Jacki wants to call the sorrel molly, Sadie.
Fifty
FIFTY, yes FIFTY Degrees. It's been so long since we've seen 50 degrees (F of course) that I almost forgot what it was like. The snow is melting but it's not all gone yet, leaving a lot of soft ground and mud. The equines are actually eating some of the grass that was left in the few bare spots that cropped up. Most of the fields are still snow covered.

Welcome to the NGs
I want to welcome all the new members to Missouri Mules. The weather is starting to break here in Missouri, and I'm getting anxious to start working with my mules and donks. I'm looking forward to train my senior mule, Willie, to drive this year. I'm going to start training my donk, Jacque B. Nimble, to drive this year also. Jacque will be 4 in April, while Willie will be 6 in June.
Winter Wonderland
This 'Global Warming' is having fun affecting the weather patterns. The fronts have been both hitting and missing the Heartland, and then intensifying and kicking the snot out of the Eastern states. We're expecting another front coming thru Missouri in the next day or two.

Missouri Mavericks
Kansas Jack — Sun, 2011-01-02 22:30OK gang. Being a Missouri Maverick doesn't mean you have to vote for Sarah Palin or John McCain. A maverick is an unbranded or unclaimed calf. The name comes from Samual Maverick, a Texas cattleman who refused to brand his livestock.
So, independent thinking is welcome, along with keeping other Sho-Me State participants aware of what is going on in your neck of the woods. What kind of equines do you own? How many? If you're not an owner, what are your interests? How can we help you?
I have 15 equines. 6 horses, 6 donkeys, and 3 mules. I enjoy riding and driving. I work with the Jugtown Colts 4-H out of Calhoun, and I'm a member of the Carriage and Driving Society of Greater Kansas City.
So, come on in and join the rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls.

New to MO.
Jim Beene — Mon, 2011-02-28 09:38This ol' cowboy moved up here from Louisiana 3 yrs ago , May. After 68 years of 100+ summers, I was looking for a cooler clime. I DO like this Ozark Prarie land. Experienced my first blizzard this year. 4 days couldn't get out. Wish I'd bought a 4WD. Now I know what 'Cabin Fever' is.
I've been to a couple of Ranch Rodeos @ Lazy P arena in Lockwood. Sorry to say not like the ones I'm used to in Texas. Would like to know of more of them around in SW MO or E.KS.
Welcome
Kansas Jack — Mon, 2011-03-14 08:55Welcome, Jim. Missouri is North of Louiaiana, but we still get some 100 degree weather during the summer months. There's plenty of equine action in the area, including ACTHA events. It all depends on how bad you want to feel good! I'm from West Central MO, just West of Warrensburg, about 65 miles ESE of Kansas City.
Again, Welcome............
