Missouri Mules
This is a Group for those who love Mules and Donkeys. This is where anyone can come to share stories about their equines, whether they be mules or Donks, regardless of size. Anyone's input is welcome.
Meet Doc
I did a blog on Doc, but I haven't introduced him to the group. Meet Doc. He's 4 this year, sorrel with a flaxen mane & tail. Doc's a friendly sort, 15.1 hh, and friendly towards people. He has already informed all the other mules that he's top mule in the South pasture. I'm hoping fur won't fly when he and Willie meet. Willie stays in the North pasture.
What's Hapnin' Now
Check out my latest blog, 'Here We Go Again'... I just made a deal to buy 3 more mules. 2 white mules, a John and a Molly, and a Sorrel Molly with white stockings on all four legs. I'll be picking them up later this week. All 3 are yearling mules, born last summer. I'll be posting some electric photos after I get them home. My wife Jacki wants to call the sorrel molly, Sadie.
Fifty
FIFTY, yes FIFTY Degrees. It's been so long since we've seen 50 degrees (F of course) that I almost forgot what it was like. The snow is melting but it's not all gone yet, leaving a lot of soft ground and mud. The equines are actually eating some of the grass that was left in the few bare spots that cropped up. Most of the fields are still snow covered.

Welcome to the NGs
I want to welcome all the new members to Missouri Mules. The weather is starting to break here in Missouri, and I'm getting anxious to start working with my mules and donks. I'm looking forward to train my senior mule, Willie, to drive this year. I'm going to start training my donk, Jacque B. Nimble, to drive this year also. Jacque will be 4 in April, while Willie will be 6 in June.
Winter Wonderland
This 'Global Warming' is having fun affecting the weather patterns. The fronts have been both hitting and missing the Heartland, and then intensifying and kicking the snot out of the Eastern states. We're expecting another front coming thru Missouri in the next day or two.

The Friendly Ones
Kansas Jack — Wed, 2011-01-19 16:24Whenever I go out into the pasture, the first ones that come to meet me are my Donks, closely followed by the Mules. The horses only come when they think they're missing something, like a treat... Donks and Mules like people, as long as they're not mistreated. The Donks and Mules, I mean, not the people. The friendliest of the herd are Tex, my miniature Donk, and Man (short for Braying Mantis) my 6 month old large standard jack. Man's dad was a Mammoth Jack, while his mom was a standard Jennet. I'm hoping he'll grow big enough to be a good Saddle Donk. His older brother, Jacque B. Nimble, is a fine young (3 1/2 yrs) gelding standing 13 hands. Jacque's dad was a standard Jack, so I'm hoping Man will grow to 14 + hands. I'm going to be training Jacque to drive as soon as the weather breaks. I'll be gelding Man and my young Mules this spring also. There's nothing in the world that can be as big of a pain or more worthless than an IN-TACT John Mule..... I hope everyone knows why............

Desert Rat — Tue, 2011-01-11 10:04Glad to see a mule group here. As they say "Ifya can't afford a mule and are to proud to ride a cow ya gotta settle for a horse".

Welcome
Kansas Jack — Thu, 2011-01-13 12:13Welcome to another Mule lover. I really like your quote. Pat Parelli uses a quote, I don't know if it's his or another's, but it rings true, "You MUST treat a mule the way you SHOULD treat a horse." And the reality is, if you do, you'll have a great friend for life. The only problem is, he won't jump off a cliff into a lake with you like the cowboys do when being chased by the bad guys. He'll give you that, "I hope you can swim" look.

Welcome
Kansas Jack — Mon, 2011-01-10 12:04I welcome anyone who is a fan of Mules or Donkeys. My avitar is my mule D-Day Willie. His name comes from his birthday, June 6. I own 3 mules and 6 Donkeys. I also have 6 horses, but my heart belongs to my mules and donks. This year my gals foaled 2 John mules and a Jack, all standard size. I do have 2 miniature donks and 2 min. horses, so I'm not holding any biases toward the smaller guys.
So, join and enjoy...

Desert Rat — Sat, 2011-01-15 10:46LOL Ya mention Parelly in one of your posts. I watch all the trainers on RFD TV and he is the only one I've seen so far that works with mules. Clinton Anderson was asked by a friend of mine if he would take in a mule and he said no. He was at least man enough to admit why and he had a good reason. He said he didn't have the time for one. Recognizeing the fact mules take three times as much time as a horse. Max Hasha over in NM has been one of my mentors for many years.

Mules
Kansas Jack — Sat, 2011-01-15 20:27There are not a lot of people who want to talk about mules. Max Harsha is one. Of course, Meredith Hodges is another, and one I respect highly. Very few of the modern trainter will reciprocate with time and attention. Meredith is one who will. I sent her a photo of my new John Mule born Memorial Day weekend, and she sent back a short chapter on things I should pay attention to as he grew. I responded with a note about some of her cautions. She in turn again responded with more info. There are not many of the "New Breed" who will do that. She's a great gal, and one of the best promoters of Donks and Mules we have.
