Winter ridding
KY Rough Rider — Sun, 2012-01-08 22:47I had my first real winter ride this last week and the temp was only in the high 20's I now have a whole new respect for Cowboys, Indians and other people who lived in the old days and the Amish who ride in much colder weather and bad weather as well. I have many more cold ridding ahead of me this year, so I'm sure my respect will only grow.

Horses may be Addictive
KY Rough Rider — Fri, 2011-10-07 12:12I think that Horses may be addictive for the last year and half all I and my Granddaughter wants to do is ride and be with our horses.
The first thing I do in the morning is go out and feed and check on Cowboy & MO. When I get home from work is go out and feed them then go for a short ride. then before I go to bed I go out and check on them again. Taylor spends almost every weekend with us so she can help
I used to love to ride my motorcycle but I haven't touched it in over a year other then move it so I can put more hay and feed down.
I spend less time on my boat this last year then ever. I ride every chance I get even if its just around the fence line When I'm not on them I'm wishing I was. Lately Taylor and I've been planning to go on overnighters over the fall and Winter.
The last few months we have been thinking and talking about competition riding and/or rodeo. But at 56 I think my options are limited. I'm very interested in Cowboy Mounted Shooting and Taylor wants to start learning barrel racing
The wife thinks I may need professional help. "She might be on to something".
Taylor My Granddaughter of 10 doesn't help as she is almost as bad as me. My Daughter says "MO" Her horse is all she thinks about and she spends more time with me and the horses then anything else. When she is not here she texts or calls me to check on them. So I think that horses can be addictive.
However I think this is an addiction I can live with and can enjoy with my Granddaughter for a long time.

How About You.
KY Rough Rider — Thu, 2010-11-18 10:10Do you ride hard and fast, or slow and steady. Do you like open country or back trails. Do you like to go out alone for a few hours or a full day, an overnighter or longer. Do you like to ride with others. What kind of horse do you have and is there a bond between you and him/her. share your story and about your riding experiences.

Riding Back Trails
kelley — Sun, 2010-11-21 10:23I like riding back trails or dirt roads with just a few friends. Nothing fast just walking/trotting along taking in the scenery. Nothing is as good for stress in my opinion as being on horseback.
Riding Back trails
KY Rough Rider — Sun, 2010-11-21 18:43Kelley, I like riding back trails also I've not been on any dirt roads yet most all are paved here. And I also agree Nothing is as good for stress as being on horseback I used to ride my motorcycle to relax but I put it out to pasture and now it's my horses. Thanks for the visit.

Slowd down a little
Desert Rat — Fri, 2010-11-19 18:57Well the past few years I have slowed down quite a bit. I hit 73 next mo. and my mule is 21. We both kinda read each others mind. Back in the early 60s Id throw my kack on anything that wore hair. We now live in Az. up on the Mogollon Rim where it's pretty open country. I spent 30+ years up in NW Wa. State rideing the Cascade and Olympic mountains. I don't do any breaking or training anymore either. However if I ever did decide I needed another animal it would be an adoption of a BLM Mustang. My wife has one and next to a mule I believe they are the greatest. Gitting kind of chilly up here now and the animals are all pretty harry. Ride safe.

Slowed down a little
KY Rough Rider — Sun, 2010-11-21 18:55Desert Rat,
I hope to do the type of riding you have done one day. I am also thinking about getting a mule one day I think they are interesting and would be good to have around.. Thanks for the visit and you ride safe as well.

Slowed down
Oldcowboy — Sat, 2010-11-20 15:35Enjoyed your post..I'm only 63 but I have slowed down some too. I think it helps me to get more enjoyment out of the things I look at now. I live snuggled up to the Appalachian Mtns with a great view of the Smoky Mts here in East Tennessee. I can feel winter on the way too. Happy Trails
