The Spirit of the American West!

Sumptuous Simplicity
The Jones home in Jackson Hole is an abode to measure up to this area’s High Country standards.

They call the place Crane Fly, a name that smacks of aquatic habitats and mountain streams and fly fishing… caddis flies, damsel flies, and all of that. There’s a large pond right outside the back door, but the real beauty of the water here is the fact that it reflects the Grand Tetons. This place, Crane Fly, is in Jackson Hole, and the back patio view is of nothing less than Grand Teton mountain itself.

With scenery that is arguably the most spectacular in the continental 48, it’s a good bet that the house, inside and out, is pretty easy on the eyes as well. And it is. Its owners, the Jones family—Allan and Janie are the couple—acquired this place along with a sizeable chunk of property besides. It’s all called Crescent H Ranch, and besides being their abode for a good part of the year, Crescent H is also a residential development that they own, plus recreational facilities, spa, and other amenities. The home’s architects were Ellis and Sharon Nunn, of Jackson.

The Joneses have business interests in the Southeast as well, and Allan is a born-and-bred Southerner whose tastes run on the rustic side. Case in point: when one enters the home, there is a 9 1/2 foot stuffed grizzly bear standing there to greet you.

“I have always loved the water and wildlife,” Allan said. “One of the things I love most about Crane Fly is that it is surrounded on two sides by water—so I can enjoy the beautiful lakes and also the grandeur of the Grand Tetons. My family and I truly enjoy our time on the [Crescent H] Ranch and our residence.”....

This view shows the back of the home, which exudes a mountain lodge sort of warmth.

These custom-made draperies adorn the windows in the Great Room. “They used fringe and tassels and even bird feathers,” Gallinger said. “That was all applied to a soft wash cheniel fabric and behind all this are grass shades. So those are totally custom-done windows.”
