garryh — Tue, 2012-01-10 22:05Switching a cow from grass to grain is so disturbing to the animal’s digestive system that it can kill the animal if not done gradually and if the animal is not continually fed antibiotics. These animals are designed to forage, but we make them eat grain, primarily corn, in order to make them as fat as possible as fast as possible.water damage beachwood OH

I do not see a big difference
jb4522jb — Wed, 2011-12-28 20:10I do not see a big difference with this at all. I think they both good no matter what they are fed. I do not see a big difference at all with it. Toronto Condo for Sale
Warm up before participating
wify — Sun, 2012-01-01 21:26Warm up before participating in sports or physical activities. Studies show that failure to prepare the hamstring adequately results in a greater risk of injury. Take the time to do some mild aerobic exercises, such as jumps or stair stepping to increase blood circulation to the hamstring. Thanks for sharing information.

inter4522 — Mon, 2011-12-26 12:40I think grass feed has always been the better option to me. The cattle are definitely the better way. The results are definitely so much better this way. actos lawsuit
Grass or corn
graphartist — Fri, 2011-04-15 15:36Corn is just the wrong answer all around. I know a big part of the midwest lives by it, Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas to name a few. But livestock should not eat it. When cows are fed a predominately corn diet they grow tumors in their stomachs. They can't properly digest it. To combat this, they are fed antibiotics which pass down through the meat to us. Corn syrup is the equivolent for us. We can't do much with it. Lets leave corn to the biofuel people. Ethanol is one way to wean ourselves off the Middle East and keep that money in the United States. I've never seen a cow in the corn fields, and they are not afraid of scare crows, more proof it's not natural.

personal preference

their way is the only way and others must be educated.
The question itself is structured to bias the answer.
tastier healthier and better for the environment all in one question.
corn fed beef is tastier, usually going to be more tender but tenderness is greatly influenced by the aging process as much as by the feed.
grazing cattle may be good for the environment depending on the managment but they may also be horrible for the environment again depending on the management.
feedlot cattle have little impact on the environment in a well managed feedlot.
well managed feedlots don't have cattle standing up to their knees in anything.
For those who think that concentrated agriculture is an evil that must be defeated. Here is a clue for you....
nearly nine billion folks in the world now and they all want to eat. a good portion of them are wanting something more than rice now. Food prices are going up because of demand. If it is not done efficiently..... feeding the world may not happen.

corn and grass fed
nancytmc2 — Thu, 2011-01-20 17:33don't have a feedlot. but am raising calves that are grass and grain fed. think this is the best. they are innoculated for health reasons and are fed grain along with all the pasture they can eat. Think this gives the best of both. (lol)
You are heading in the right
Desert Rat — Fri, 2011-01-21 12:10You are heading in the right direction. But they do need a good mineral mix added. As far as all the grass they can eat, espacially in the spring . Grass is 90% water so even if the grass did have the required amount of protien and minerals in it they are filling their stomachs up on water and leaving no room for the matter that consists of the nutriants they need.

Grass vs. corn
socalwild — Wed, 2011-01-19 11:04I believe that grass fed beef is probably better and better for you. However, I grew up on my grandparents farm in Western Iowa where they ran a significant feed lot operation and no that they took thier cattle very serious and went to all lengths to provide the finest beef. My Grandfather is probably turning in his grave with the new interest in grass fed beef. He always said there is nothing better than Iowa corn fed cows.
LOL If your Grandad is
Desert Rat — Thu, 2011-01-20 19:05LOL If your Grandad is turning over hes probably doing it from laughter. Laughing at this gras fed craze that is not only costing the growers mony but like in the case of stocker cattle they are not getting the nutriants and minerals needed for a balanced gain. We used to figure we lost two and a half days gain in a critter just to take a pen full out to count them.

Feed lot beef
Desert Rat — Thu, 2011-01-13 19:19Sorry folks but I really don't care for grass fed beef. It is always tougher then feed lot beef. Plus the fact any beef that goes through a feed lot you can guarentee the critter is healthier then one on open range. Feed lot critters are inoculated for all the clostridiums, wormed and in general in better health.

grass fed beef
brookslandandcattle — Fri, 2011-01-14 19:25In contrast to the previous post, I believe that grass fed beef is healthier and tastier than feed lot beef. Grass fed beef is lower in fat, lower in calories, and is higher in omega 3s. People with a diet rich in omega-3s are less likely to be afflicted with depression, schizophrenia, attention deficit disorder (hyperactivity), or Alzheimer's disease. As for tenderness, it is the intramuscular fat that creates tender, juicy beef, and although it takes a little longer to achieve on grass alone, it is worth the wait. In regards to healthy animals, I think cattle crammed into pens, standing knee deep in urine and feces, will NEED more inoculations to keep them healthy, much more than my cattle roaming freely on their grassy pastures. On our ranch we raise grass fed beef, that is consumed and prefered by my family and extended family and friends, over the beef from the grocery store that comes from the feed lots. These are just my opinions but as a rancher with a degree in animal science, I think I am close to the mark.
Feed lot beef
Desert Rat — Sat, 2011-01-15 10:37I guess it realy depends on personal preferance. But as an old broken down cowboy who has worked both open range and feed lots with only a degree in feeds and feeding and range management I still think feed lot cattle are healthier and produce more per carcase wieght. Rang cattle move more and tend to build up tough muscle. Where critters on feed lean out much better. I'm not one for any kind of imports but Japans Kobie Beef proves my point. As far as desiese goes feed lot critters are subjected to a regimin of inoculations that prevent some desieses that range cattle are subjected to and many times are not even noted before these animals go to slaughter. This is not to say an animal should not be on grass till they reach maximum size but finnishing them in a feed lot setting while they are still on the gain will produce a tenderer, leaner critter. As they say the proof is in the pudding.

Grass vs grain feed cattle
Cattle baron — Tue, 2011-01-25 17:09I work cattle for a leaving. Grass fed cattle can be vacinated and wormed. Cattle in commercial feedlots are feed in pens but have room to move and exercise and most packers are docking for manure on them. To me I don't care which is healthier for me I have and will always it grain fed fat cattle.
Grass Fed Is Healthier
stephen abrams — Sat, 2011-01-15 12:42Feedlot cattle spend most of their time in one spot up to their knees in manure. How healthy can that be?
More proof comes from Lance Armstrong (one healthy indiviual) and his livestrong website:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/356542-grass-fed-beef-nutrition-inform...
And Men's Health magazine just printed an article that said feedlot beef has eight times as much fat as grassfed. That can't be good for you.
