Much To Do Re LeDoux

I wrote you when (now deceased cowboy singer and bareback champion) Chris LeDoux was nominated and inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame in the National Cowboy Museum (October 2006) and, well, I have more news of note on this matter. LeDoux will be inducted into Texas Trail of Fame on Sat., Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. on the steps of the Fort Worth Livestock Exchange in the Fort Worth, Texas, National Stockyards Historic District. I nominated him in 2005 for this honor, and he did get attention for my nomination letter, but he didn't garner enough votes in 2005 or in 2006. I think his induction into the Rodeo Hall of Fame made the difference this time. I met him once in the early '70s before championship or fame found him. This quiet, funloving, sincere man talked to me like he talked to everyone there, as an equal. My daddy taught me two things. He said keep these two and everything else will not matter. No. 1: Ride for the brand (be loyal to your employer and give him an honest day's work for your pay. No. 2: Make your word your bond. If you share this information, please do not mention me. I am not the story. The story should be another posthumous honor for Chris LeDoux and how much love he still engenders in his fans even two years after his untimely passing. Thanks for your time. I have been a subscriber for a while nowand don't plan on that changing ever

Nice to get that, and I'm sure Chris' fans are all gratified by the news. In the following letter, addressing a different matter, a reader (and cowboy minister) who has been corresponding to convince us (not that we needed convincing) that there are plenty of cowboys and cowgals in Missouri and Illinois, added this bit to the body of evidence:

Corrections/Clarifications In our July/Aug. '07 issue, in our article on the Oklahoma centennial, we incorrectly stated that Oklahoma ballplayer Johnny Bench was a pitcher. Reader Johnny Mack Brown of Checotah, Okla., was the first to call with the correction, steering us kindly toward the too-obvious truth that Bench was a catcher. for the Cincinnati Reds, in the days of the Big Red Machine. Another reader, Chuck Gipson, of Webbers Falls, Okla., made the equally apt observation that Reba McEntire should have been cited among the notable musicians to have come from the Sooner State. Please address any letters submitted for publication to Letters to the Editor, American Cowboy magazine, 921 Walnut, Suite 250, Boulder, CO 80301. Or send email to jmullins@americancowboy.com. With email, as with regular mail, please specify if the correspondence is intended as a letter to the editor. American Cowboy reserves the right to edit letters for length or clarity.
