Day 1: Enjoy a hearty Western breakfast of steak and eggs at the Cowboy Café, where you can often spot horses hitched to a post outside. When you’re finished eating, head over to the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. The museum has a top-notch collection of Western artwork and artifacts, and recently finished an expansion that houses an authentic Flying E stagecoach. Next, explore the Hassayampa River Preserve, just outside of town. This are some of the most beautiful and unspoiled Western landscapes that Arizona has to offer. The tasty Mexican cuisine at Anita’s Cocina makes this a great stop for lunch or dinner.

Day 2: Another rib-sticking, down-home breakfast awaits you at the Country Kitchen. Once you’ve had your fill, take some time to experience Wickenburg’s rich mining history. Robson’s Mining World is an Old-West ghost town with a lot to see, and you can swing on by the Vulture Mine for a self-guided tour. You’re not done with historical fun in this town, however. Take a walk down historic Frontier Street and make a visit to Massacre Monument, a memorial to the victims of an 1871 attack by Apache and Mojave warriors. After you’ve worked up an appetite, get yourself a nice steak at Qorri’s, open daily for dinner.

Day 3: Get up early and grab breakfast at your hotel, then take an

hour and a half drive along the scenic Carefree Highway to historic Cave Creek. Nestled in beautiful desert scenery below Black Mountain, this is a unique town where horses and Harley-Davidsons naturally coexist. El Encanto offers Mexican fare beside a pond with live waterfowl. For American cuisine, the Horny Toad is a great spot for delicious ribs, burgers, and chicken. Off-road vehicle tours and horseback riding are plentiful in the area, and offered by friendly local companies like Cave Creek Trail Rides. Harold’s and the Buffalo Chip Saloon and Steakhouse both offer delicious cowboy grub with dancing and live country music.

Located in the beautiful Sonoran Desert just outside of town, the Wickenburg Inn is the perfect place to lodge for a cowboy getaway. Children under the age of 12 stay for free, and many Old West horseback adventures are found nearby.
