Well, Denver’s marathon, 16-day National Western Stock Show (nationalwestern.com) drew to a close on Sunday. And despite seeing a 1.5-percent decrease in visitors compared to last year, the 2010 event drew 633,003 visitors. That’s an amazing 13 years in a row that the 104-year-old show has topped the 600,000 mark! The show puts on a total of 29 rodeos over two-plus weeks, and the stockyards host more than 15,000 animals. Yes, Colorado loves its cowboys.

In a fun side note, last week’s Cowboy Downhill ski race in Steamboat Springs, Colo. was also a huge success with 64 competitors and hundreds of spectators. Bull rider Jed Moore from Cheyenne, Wyo., won his second consecutive title. This was his 13th year racing in the Cowboy Downhill. (The award for best crash went to Eric Brynildson, a steer wrestler from Rifle, Colo.)

So the 2010 rodeo season is already off to a good start.
